the Speakers

Dr.
Chris Cebra has been working with camelids
for about eighteen years, starting as an
intern on the East Coast and working his
way steadily westward. In the process, he
spent 4 years at Colorado State University
working with such camelid experts as LaRue
Johnson and Frank Garry, getting involved
with the major camelid conferences of the
day, and launching clinical research projects,
chiefly concerning digestive disorders.
After completing his training as a veterinary
internist, he joined the faculty at Oregon
State University, which at the time included
Brad Smith, Karen Timm, Bob van Saun, Susan
Tornquist and others with strong camelid
interests.
Dr. Cebra has continued his work on digestive
disorders, involved currently with projects
on corona virus and Eimeria macusaniensis,
and has been involved with major initiatives
to study energy metabolism and Mycoplasma
haemolama (Eperythrozoonosis) in camelids.
He has written or co-authored over 50 scientific
articles concerning camelids, 39 of which
are listed on PubMed, and been involved
with over 30 camelid research projects funded
by such agencies as the Morris Animal Foundation,
Alpaca Research Foundation, and Willamette
Valley Llama Foundation.
Dr. Cebra presents at conferences worldwide
(eight countries on four continents at last
count) as well as hosting the International
Camelid Health Conference at Oregon State
in odd-numbered years. He is currently the
Head of the Department of Clinical Sciences.
He also teaches in the veterinary curriculum
and works in the Large Animal Hospital,
seeing internal medicine cases of all large
animal species.

Wini
Labrecque is one of four founding partners
in American
Alpaca Textiles, LLC. AAT is a company
who's mission is creating american sourced
and produced alpaca fabrics for the commercial
upholstery and home furnishings industry.
Wini has made fiber her profession, studying,
training and evaluating its properties from
both a scientific and hands on approach
since 1988. As a textile artist, she has
developed a solid background and interest
in a wide variety of techniques for utilization
of fiber from raw state to finished product.
She was introduced to alpacas in 2000 at
a local alpaca show and became hooked. Her
focus on alpaca fiber led her to complete
the AOBA Fleece Judging apprentice program
and become a Certified Fleece Judge in 2009.
Wini has completed training and certification
as a camelid fiber grader/sorter through
Olds College, Alberta Canada and is currently
finishing her certification as a camelid
fiber classer. Her skills have helped develop
a successful alpaca yarn production project
for her local affiliate as well as assist
others in starting their own. She lectures
on all aspects of alpaca fiber from evaluation,
judging, sorting/grading and utilization
to finished products.
Wini, along with her husband John own Star

Tania
received her V.M.D. degree from University
of Pennsylvania and her B.S. from Albright
College in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating
from University of Pennsylvania, she was
employed by several highly respected equine
practices specializing in reproduction (Dr.
W. Soloman, York, PA), racetrack practice
(Drs. Tiegland, Franklin and Brokken, Miami,
FL) and general equine practice (Southern
Maryland Equine Veterinary Services, Upper
Marlboro, MD).
She also worked as a Veterinary
Medical Officer for the Food and Drug Administration
where she specialized in equine pharmaceutical
research and development. Dr. Woerner has
received certification in equine acupuncture
and has been trained in equine osteopathy.
In addition to running TOVS, Dr. Woerner
breeds and trains Thoroughbred and Warmblood
horses and foxhunts with several Northern
Virginia hunts. She is a member of the American
Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP)
and the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association

Dr.
William B. Ley has been in the northern
Virginia area (NOVA) since 2001. He was
the head veterinarian at REACH, LLC in Millwood,
VA before joining Dr. Waldron at Rectortown
Equine Center in July of 2005. He now operates
his own private practice and bases his breeding
and wellness services out of Cloverlone
Broodmare Farm's barn near Marshall, Virginia.
Dr. Ley is a board certified
specialist in equine reproduction. He has
30 years of practical experience in general
equine medicine, as well as being a highly
trained reproduction expert.
He has 21 years of teaching
and research experience in equine medicine
and reproduction through his professional
associations with the University of California
at Davis, Davis, CA, Texas A & M University,
College Station, TX, the VA-MD Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM),
Blacksburg, VA, and Oklahoma State University
College of Veterinary Medicine, Stillwater,
OK.
As Head of the Department
of Clinical Sciences at Oklahoma State,
he was in charge of the clinical training
programs for all third and fourth year veterinary
students. Many of his former veterinary
students at VMRCVM and Oklahoma are practicing
in the NOVA and Mid-Atlantic States area.
During his academic career it is estimated
that he taught well over 1500 veterinarians
in the USA and world wide.
Dr.
Ley developed the Foal Watch TM milk calcium
test. He has published well over 70 refereed
and scientific journal articles. He is often
a hired speaker on equine reproduction across
the country.
Dr. Ley began attending to
the needs of llamas and alpacas in the northern
Virginia area of Loudoun and Fauquier counties
in 2006. His close proximity to breeders
in this area is ideal in emergency situations.
As a reproductive specialist, he is quite
adept at assisting difficult births, and
can perform Caesarean sections.
Much like the equine species,
camelids are quite stoic, yet fragile at
the same time. Quick response with fluids,
temperature control, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories,
and plasma are vital to any alpaca/llama
in distress.
Dr. Ley is available to stabilize
your camelid and help you make the best
decision should it need more intense treatment
at a major hospital. Twenty-four hour care
is available with Dr. Ley if that is the
best option for your animal.
